Egyptomania narratives or motifs
Despite the long history of the series and its very varied content, it is surprising that the appearance of ancient Egypt is minimal in the plots of this show’s episodes for 7 seasons (so far).
In “JuRicksic Mort” (S06E06), spaceships land everywhere on Earth at the present time. The aliens inside these ships are ancient dinosaurs coming back to Earth with a precise goal: they are not convinced that the planet is thriving under the rule of human beings.
Initially, after observing human behaviour, the dinosaurs had left the earth (in order to help other planets improve), since they were convinced that the advent of “evolved monkeys” did not seem to be going in the right direction.
The episode presents the moment when each of these spacecrafts arrives at easily recognizable places: the hills in Hollywood, Paris with the Eiffel Tower, New York City with the Statue of Liberty and the skyline, London with the tower of Big Ben. These are, as we can see, places that have become emblematic of the Western world. But the first time the dinosaurs come out of their ship and revealed themselves to men take place in Egypt, at the foot of the pyramids on the Giza plateau, showing the Sphinx and the pyramids.
The media cover the arrival of the spacecraft, which is broadcast live on Nile News. The citizens crowd into Giza to welcome the aliens. The attitude of the army is very different, with the general reporting that to conquer the earth they will have to conquer Egypt first. Egypt's militarisation and its defensive and offensive capabilities do not seem to intimidate the dinosaurs, who easily reduce the soldiers. At this point, the series' scriptwriters introduce a joke consisting of a play on words that, on the one hand, shows the Egyptian pride in their power, which the mummies have not been able to resist, and the fear of seeing the enemy leave the ship, which leads the general to exclaim “Mummy mia”.
